Sausage Portioner Weight & Cut for Miratorg

Weight-Based Sausage Cutting for Packaging Automation

Mirotec completed a project for Miratorg: the implementation of a Sausage Portioner Weight & Cut system for angled cutting of sausage logs before automated packaging.
The machine cuts sausage logs into accurate portions at 45°, 70° or 90° and supports stable product feeding into downstream packaging equipment. The solution was selected to reduce manual cutting, improve portion consistency and make the packaging process faster and more predictable.
This type of equipment is especially useful for sausage producers who need accurate weight-based cutting, clean product presentation and reliable integration with thermoformers or tray packaging lines.

Project Task

The customer needed to automate sausage log cutting and loading before packaging while maintaining accurate portion weight and clean product appearance.
The project focused on several production tasks:
— automate angled cutting of sausage logs
— reduce manual cutting and manual loading operations
— maintain accurate portion weight before packaging
— improve product presentation in the pack
— synchronize product feeding with packaging equipment
— reduce product losses caused by inaccurate cutting
— support stable operation of the packaging line

Implemented Solution

Mirotec supplied and integrated a Sausage Portioner Weight & Cut system adapted for sausage logs with and without clips.
The equipment was configured for angled cutting at 45°, 70° and 90° and integrated into the production line together with a signal unit, thermoformer and label applicator. The system provides continuous automated processing and synchronized product feeding into two-chamber trays.
The protected cutting unit and accurate cutting geometry help cut the product safely without damaging the casing. This keeps the product suitable for further packaging and helps maintain a stable final appearance.

Commercial Effect

The project helped the customer automate a labor-intensive operation and improve the stability of sausage portioning before packaging.
Main results for the customer:
— reduced time spent on manual cutting and loading
— improved hygiene by reducing direct operator contact with the product
— better product appearance due to accurate angled cutting
— increased line productivity by 15–20% due to stable pace and synchronized feeding
— flexibility for different sausage types, including boiled sausages, boiled-smoked products and clipped or unclipped sausage logs

Portion Accuracy and Product Savings

The Sausage Portioner Weight & Cut system cuts sausage logs with high portion accuracy. In this project, cutting deviation did not exceed ±1% of the sausage log weight, helping maintain a stable result during packaging.
The built-in reject system helps reduce product losses when weight deviation occurs. If one half of the sausage log is outside the required weight range, the machine logic can send only the non-standard part to reject while keeping the acceptable half for packaging.
This helps preserve more sellable product and reduces unnecessary waste compared with less controlled cutting processes.

Integration with Packaging Equipment

The equipment supports integration with automated loading systems for sausage halves into thermoformers and tray packaging machines.
This allows the line to work as a connected process: cutting, portion control, product feeding and packaging preparation can be synchronized according to the required product format and production speed.
